UAP Makati Chapter Elects Aidea Employees as Officers
The UAP (United Architects of the Philippines) Makati Chapter has elected six
architects from Aidea Philippines Inc. as officers for the Chapter Year 2010-2011.
These are Flamin Fabellon Jr., President; Precious Verni Sanchez, Treasurer; Romelito
Bencito, Auditor; Leslie Anne Pardo, Public Relations Officer; Mark Roeland de Castro,
Director for Internal Affairs; and Loida Laydia, Committee Chairperson for Competitions.
The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) has more than 24,000 members. UAP is
composed of chapter organizations that help it implement its objectives and UAP Makati
Chapter was one of the very first chartered chapters. Since being chartered in November
21, 1977, it has been led by 23 presidents, produced five national presidents and has
had five members given the most prestigious award by the national organization, which
is the Likha Award.
According to Fabellon, who is serving his second term as president for the group, they
will continue this year with initiatives they undertook in 2009 under the theme
"EMPOWERMENT". The Chapter's performance last year earned for it the UAP Best Chapter
Award for 2009.
UAP Makati Chapter holds monthly general membership and Board of Directors meetings,
and organizes regular gatherings for its members, inviting prestigious speakers to
give talks on matters of concern for their industry as well as leadership and other
training courses. The featured speakers and topics in 2009 were: Karen Cruz who conducted
a leadership and team-building course; then-Taguig Mayor Sigfredo Tinga on his city's
merits and development; Architects Manolo Noche and Topy Vasquez on building preservation,
renovation and demolition; Arch. Anna Gonzales on "Planning with Nature, Planning with
People—Lessons from Ondoy;" and LLDA (Laguna Lake Development Authority) general
manager Edgardo Manda on the Ondoy tragedy. The Chapter's other activities were partnering
with Haribon Foundation for a tree planting initiative, and organizing a bowling tournament
and Christmas party for its members.
UAP Makati Chapter has around 20 member firms and around 800 individual members, more
than 40 of which are from Aidea.
